WEST COAST OF GREENLAND - DISCO ISLAND July 4th to July 17th

FROM ASSIAAT TO AASIAAT

After completion of her first cruise from Nuuk to Aasiaat, Pelagic Australis will venture further north as the ice conditions open up. Concentrating on the Disco Island area, we will venture as far north as ice and time allows before returning to Aasiaat. Along the way we will probe into the numerous fjords and spend as much time on land as possible while trekking and observing the wildlife. This is a true high latitude sailing expedition and the itinerary is upon an exploratory basis, left entirely to the vagaries of the weather and ice conditions. DATES

July 4th (Aasiaat) to July 17th (Assiaat). July 4th is the first night on board and July 17th
is the last night on board.

TRAVEL LOGISTICS

There are two ways to reach Greenland by air. Via Copenhagen, Air Greenland ( www.airgreenland.com ) runs to up to15 flights per week into the Greenland air hub Kangerlussuaq on the west coast. From there a connection is made to a small aircraft to Aasiaat. For the return, a small aircraft connection is made between Aasiaat and Kangerlussuaq, and then on to Copenhagen. This is the most logical route for Europeans.

Air Iceland ( www.airiceland.is ) operated a twice weekly service in the summer of 2004 between Reykjavik and Kulusuk on the east coast. From there a connection is made by small aircraft with Air Greenland to Kangerlussuaq and on to Aasiaat. At time of writing there is rumor of a daily service. This might be the best scenario for crew arriving from North America.

COST

Group rate for the boat for carrying a maximum of 8 guests is 3000 EUROS per day or 42000 EUROS, all inclusive of food, beverages and port taxes, once on board.

Individual prices are 5600 EUROS per person.

Terms are one third of the cost on booking, one third four months before departure and the last third six weeks before departure.

ITINERARY

Because of the uncertainty of ice conditions and restraints imposed upon a small vessel by the weather, it is impossible to set a strict itinerary for such a cruise. The objectives, however, are to sail as far north as possible with respect to ice conditions and our schedule, circumnavigating Disco Island (70 degrees north and well above the Arctic Circle) as a consequence of the route.
