JUNE 1903 - 1906 - GJØA and AMUNDSEN FIRST TRANSIT OF NORTH WEST PASSAGE



Gjøa, The first vessel to sail through the North West passage. Built in Hardanger Norway 1872.



Captain Roald Amundsen and 6 crew members sailed Gjøa from Norway on the 17th of June 1903.

They stayed 23 months in Gjøa harbour to carry out scientiic resarch. Continued to King Point in summer 1905 and completed transit to Nome in 1906.
